    Drop down value

I actually got it to work until I got the error "Only positive integer allowed." I then changed the value to "ID" which worked, but not when I want to reference the that drop down from a text field.

So let's say I have a drop down of a,b,c,d and if I select "d" I want that value to display in my text box below the drop down. If I change the value in the drop down to "ID" I can only get a number in the test box.

The drop down it getting it's data from the same list. So I setup a Data connection for it to point too.

I'm having a hard time understanding the scenario/issue. Would you mind rephrasing your question? If you think it will help, you can attach a template or screenshots via the Options tab when replying. Thanks.

I figured what wrote was confusing. Nice to know that I can upload images. Once this is working I will be branching onto another drop down that will only display software for that vendor. The purpose of the text box is so that if it is not in the drop down it can be typed instead.

    I have it attached. Thanks

Thanks for the screenshots. The second screenshot looks correct to me; you want to use a unique ID as the Value for the dropdown and then the DisplayName can be anything you want. Usually something user friendly is selected, because Adobe is more user friendly than 11. But the XML node can only store one value, and it stores the Value (11). If you need the DisplayName (Adode) stored also in the xml, then you'll need to add a node to the schema.

I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean by "add a node to the schema." How would I do that?

In the taskpane, click on myFields and select Add. You can add a node, which is not in the canvas.

Thanks for your help Ernesto. I will look into adding a node. I love that there is so much to learn in InfoPath.
