Variable based link to XML - how to resolve

Hello everybody and thanks for taking the time to read my question. I've been searching the web for this some couple of days now and I can't find a decent solution anywhere, so I'm taking a shot here :)

One of our business suppliers has a xml-parser which returns live data from their database. The underlying query for this process is based on 2 variables, which are held in the URL which parses the XML-file. So, I've got a link that looks like this: http://apps.company.com/customers/export.bsl_xml?variable1=1234&variable2=1 This all works fine when I add this XML-file as a data conection in InfoPath.

I have a form which gets some data and has a dropdown box, which contains certain values. Whenever a user selects one of these values, I need my form to put that value into the XML-link and get me the data from that link. However, as far as my knowledge reaches, I can't figure out a way to get my varaibles from the dropdown box into the XML-link, which is defined in the data-connection. Has anybody encountered this issue as well and is there anybody willing to share their knowledge or possible fixes for me? I'd greatly appreciate it!

I hope you can understand my question, but if things aren't clear, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

    Kinds regards,
    RMeij

    Hi RMeij,

Sounds like you need to add a data connetion to the URL using a REST receive Web service and then use the special rule to query REST and pass it a query string using the concat function with a couple files inside....

    Here's a channel 9 video that may help: http://channel9.msdn.com/Blogs/donovanf/InfoPath-2010-and-Creating-a-Form-that-Consumes-a-REST-enabled-WCF-Service

    Best of luck,

Thanks Patrick, you saved my day! It's hard to find what you're looking for where you're not exactly sure where you have to start looking. Thanks for giving me the right directions, which lead me to a solution to my problem!
