Copy text/data from repeating section to repeating section

I have dredged this forum for support but can't seem to find the answer

I have a 2003 form that is used to submit to acess. I have a repeating section that is used, but i want to be able to auto populate a number of feild based on the information that was selected from the first field or from a master field to reduce the amount of time spent clicking. i have came across some advice but this hast worked.

    Rules

    Action: = "Set a field's Value"

    Field: = "File_Sent_To"

    Value: = "File_Sent_To[last()]"

I plan on having the user select a destination of a file from a drop down list and this to autopopulate the same feild in every section. Im struggling to get this to work.

Im also looking to see if it is possible to set a limit to the amount of times a repeating section can be used. We have a rule that only 25 files can be submitted as at a time therefore would like the repeating section to the allow the insert field option only 25 times before removing the option

    thanks

Sounds like you need something like cascading dropdowns to solve your first problem.  Here is a video that may help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH7xUEcQwwg&list=UUevFL_5LD2E2t9SxCle35iw&index=12&feature=plcp

The second part can be solved by opening up the xsn and adding a max attribute to the repeating section.  This will require exporting the source files and a little bit of rummaging through code, but otherwise is probably the easiest way of accomplishing this.

Re: Copy text/data from repeating section to repeating section

thanks for getting back to me.

the link was useful but doesnt solve my query.

let me try and detail it a bit better. i plan on sending 25 files. I want to submit all 25 files and the content of the form to a database. they are all going to the same location. I want to be able to autmate the process by enabling a feature that allows the user to select the location once and this updates the repeating section with the location for each record. the content would preferrably be from a dropdown list (this should only need to be selected once). As i mentioned sort of like a master location.

I can achieve something similar in excel by simply entering =cell. Can the same idea not be applied in infopath.

Secondly im a complete newbie that has relied on the internet to do most of my form. Im not sure what code i need to amend.

     thanks

Not sure if I understand, but it sounds like you just want to set a field in your repeating table to default to another field in your main data source. Here's simple sample of that. To try the sample, save the file (from the link in the post header) locally (right click the link, save as). Then right click the saved file and select Design to open in design mode. Then you can preview, select an option from the drop down, add new rows, the first column will always use the drop down value.

Hilary, thank you so much - you really made that easy.

I cant thank you enough. Not to puch my luck but any ideas about the second query?

Can i restrict the amount of repeating sections? We can only send 25 files at a time, therefore i dont want people to be able to select the insert option more than this

    Thanks

Well, one thing you could do would be add conditional formatting to the section - if the count of the repeating section nodes is = 25, don't allow insert or delete - but that's kind of restrictive in that once you hit 25, you can't delete any rows either.
