    Multiple and different data sources

Hi I'm not entirely sure where to post this question so here's a good start. I work for a healthcare provider and I'm building forms to replace paper in an attempt to save the organisation money. I have a patient administration system and a SQL server. My plan is to build a form which can retrieve patient demographics via a web service into the form, populating its fields, and then save that data to a SQL server. I have to call perhaps two web services, which I can do when each is on an individual form; the same can be said of the SQL server form: I am able to both retrieve data from and submit data to a database - this I can also do successfully. What I cannot do is all of it on one form. I need a way to section off the patient/web service search from a different web service search. Currently one button runs all queries, which is quite annoying. So any pointers to pertinent documentation and thoughts are welcome. Thanks Adam

    Hi Adam,

You can definitely have separate Web service calls in one form. For SQL, the best practice is to not have a direct connection, but rather to use a Submit connection to a Web service. This may require redoing your form and writing a Web service or installing a generic one, like Qdabra's DBXL (an inexpensive option).

We do this kind of query and submit all the time and it is totally possible. I'd be happy to show you a quick demo if you're interested.

    Just email me.

    Thanks,

Hiya, The web service option is the way forward. I haven't actually coded a form yet, but so long as I can link or bind each button to each form, that should suffice. I would very much like to see your demo. I'm not sure I can afford the Qdabra's DBXL at present. If I can do it without that, I would prefer that option. Let me know. Thanks Adam
