    Automatic filling of form sections

This is probably a really simple thing but all my training was for 2003 and recently my PC was updated to 2010!!!!

I have a simple form with just a few sections that need to be filled. It is a work sheet type form and i would like to reduce the time i spend typing in the same information all the time - it has been reduced with the form i curently have  but is there a way i can get a test box to populate the text from what i am typing?

Either i would like field one to be popualted from a list which reduces as i type in - eg from a list that says - apples, apricots, pears, plums , oranges etc - when i type "a" the list shriks to only show the items starting with A - my list has around 50 lines in it so scrolling down down be tiresome!!

then i would like field 2 to show a number with the format 00.00.00 - depending on what was selected in field 1 - i am sure this could be done with rules but i am struggling to get them to work as they are completely different in 2010 than 2003

The populating field 2 i would like even if i can get the autopoulation of field 1 - i can still free type it but would want the number to appear as i tab to the next field

as i said i am sure this is a really simple thing to do and i probably know how in the darkest recesses of my brain but please help...
