    Visual Studio workflow error until relinking the document.

    I created a workflow in Visual Studio 8 that sends email based on fields in a SharePoint form library.  These fields are populated by an InfoPath form.  This workflow works great on one server, but on the other server I get an unspecified error until I relink the document.  Before I relink, the heading in my template.xml starts with

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> .

    After the relink, the heading is missing the encoding="UTF-8" and the adds the following after the <?mso-application progid="InfoPath.Document" versionProgid="InfoPath.Document.2"?> ;

     <?MicrosoftWindowsSharePointServices ContentTypeID="0x0101010052948BB80F1C764082CA4E9AC5E8E2B000180BB0CE4DFE6C4B9343E7C854DF1FA8"?>.

    To confirm that this is the problem, I downloaded a form that I got errors with, removed the encoding line and added the ContentTypeID line, saved it and uploaded it back to the site.  The workflow ran without error.    I am not sure what is causing this and do not know how to resolve it.  Any ideas?

    Hi Hollyanne,

    I have no idea and can only guess that the custom workflow that is parsing the XML is failing when it sees UTF-8 encoding. It shouldn't do that though. Sorry, but why do you need a Visual Studio 8 project to do this? You should be able to do this all in SharePoint Designer without writing code. We've done that but we tend to shy away from doing custom workflow projects. Most of the time they aren't needed. Certainly for this case they aren't unless you have some really special formatting in that email. :)

    Re: Visual Studio workflow error until relinking the document.

    One of the problems with using SharePoint Designer workflows is that they tend to fail for no reason.  I especially hit the document is checked out error alot.  I also want to be able to use one workflow on more than one library and site.   I want to be able to use looping.  I plan on using Visual Studio for custom web parts and workflows.  I just need to figure out how to fix this problem.  As I said, it is working on a different site.  ~Thanks
