Accessing the SharePoint LOGS file from within InfoPath 2007 form

    Hi,

I am editing an existing InfoPath 2007 form which has been develped using VS2008. The form can be opened using infopath and a browser window. The form is published to a SharePoint 2007 site. If any errors are experienced when the form is submitted (and some custom code is run) the errors are displayed on the form to the user. I would like to display a generic error message on the form that is user friendly and write the exception to a log file for developer support to use to investigate issues.

Being fairly new to InfoPath and SharePoint i figured I would try to write the error to the SharePoint LOG file under the 12\ folder. Is this a good place to write the errors to? If so, is it possible to access this log file from within code? can someone please explain how I would do this using VB.NET 3.5? I'm trying to find an alternative to writing to the Application event logs.

    Thanks

    Hi Milie,

I don't think the 12 folder is a good place for that if your client open your form with an InfoPath Rich client you can't have acces to this folder.

I suggest you to use a share folder and write your error on a file or you can write it to a Sharepoint List using web services.

    Thanks Potemkine.

I think I will do as you suggest and attempt to write to a Sharepoint List using web services. Thanks again for your help.

qRules has a command SubmitToSharePoint list that you can use to write to a SharePoint list without code or a Web service. This means no Web service deployment. No code to compile. Lower maintenance costs to you.
