"Save As & Submit" button all in one?

I started using the Expense Report sample form that's on InfoPath 2007 and have modified it to my liking.  I'm stuck on one thing and was wondering if someone could help.  I'd like to have the Submit button have the capability to look at certain metadata that's on the form itself (i.e. - Joe Smith is filling out an expense report for January 2011), automatically save the form as "JS - January 2011" on a SharePoint library as well as send an email to a select person.

Is it possible to have the Submit button do that without having to manually do a Save As first and then submit the form to the select person?

Yes, an InfoPath button configured to use Rules can execute many actions. For example, the first action could be the Sharepoint submit, and the second action could be the email submit.

Thanks.  Where can I find some instructions on how to do so?

    Hi Elon2000,

We don't have specific instructions on this since it's just out-of-box functionality of InfoPath.

    1. First go to Tools->Data Connections and add two data connections - one for SharePoint Library Submit and another for Email Submit
Note: you can configure the data connections to use fields from your form to name your sharePoint library form or the subject of your email - click the Fx button in the wizard
    2. Next, add a button to your view
    3. Double click on the button to see Button Properties
    4. Click on Rules and Custom Code
    5. Add a rule and call it "Submit and Send"
    6. Leave the condition blank (always runs)
    7. Add two actions - one for submit to SharePoint and another for send email

That's about it.... give it a try. Should be easy as pi.

    Hey Patrick,

This worked perfectly.  Thanks!  One more question - when I was doing the Fx for the SharePoint Library Submit data connection, I decided to do a concat so that the file name is obtaining information from three metadata fields on the form itself.  How can I add a dash and a space to the formula itself?  So instead of it saying "RobertJanuary2011" it can say "Robert - January 2011"

Here's the Fx formula:  concat(Value[Name = "FirstName"], month1, year)   and it comes out as RobertJanuary2011

Glad to hear you wgot it working.

    For the dashified naming, try something like concat(Value[Name = "FirstName"], ' - ', month1, ' - ', year)

    You can also use double quotes instead of single quotes, i.e. concat(Value[Name = "FirstName"], " - ", month1, " - ", year)

And if concat complains about too many parameters, just use two concats: concat(Value[Name = "FirstName"], " - ", concat(month1, " - ", year))

    Cheers!
