Editing a Sharepoint list that is published via an Infopath form

My team has created a form in InfoPath 2003 to collect information about the projects we run in our organisation. This form is used to publish a list in sharepoint, from where we can extract relevant data to excel for sharing/reporting. Since we needed to make some changes to the fields and structure of the form that will cause the existing data to be lost upon reopening the infopath docs we wanted to recapture the existing inputs by to editing the data for the changed fields in a datasheet but it seems that by default sharepoint lists that has been published using an infopath form is READ ONLY. Is there any way to get around this either by updating the list using "edit in datasheet" option or any other work-around? or does the controls in the sharepoint form simply prevent this?

I am sorry if this has been posted somewhere else but I was unable to find anything that addresses this specific challenge.

I think you need to use InfoPath 2007 in order to enable property demotion in SharePoint.  If you use InfoPath 2007 designer you should be able to change the columns to be editable in SharePoint.  By default they are not editable in SharePoint unless you enable it when you publish your template.

Re: Editing a Sharepoint list that is published via an Infopath form

Hi I am having a similar problem, I have an Info path 2010 published to a Sharepoint 2007.  I would like to know if the "Edit in Datasheet" under Actions will allow me to edit a submitted Microsoft InfoPath form in SharePoint and if I could create an entry. When I review my sample submission in datasheet view, it indicates in the right corner, "Read only”. I have went to the form publishing and tried to promote each field to be editable there but have found the check box to be greyed out, would this have anything to do with them being repeating sections and can you edit these? Please help J

    Hi Triona,

You are correct, it is because they are repeating sections.  Certain types of controls in InfoPath can't be edited in SharePoint, repeating sections and repeating data of any kind are not editable in SharePoint.
