Infopath adding unwanted text to XML

I have an Infopath 2010 form that is based on an XSD.  I have a multiple-selection list box that pulls its values from a separate XML file.  InfoPath is inserting extra information into the XML file as follows:
    <mstns:Feature></mstns:Feature>

This is disrupting another process that depends on a very specific XML format.  Is there any way to stop InfoPath from adding this extra code?  Is there any way to strip it out in some sort of function when the form is saved?

    I'd appreciate any help,  Thanks!

    Hi Carolyn,

If you designed your InfoPath Form Template from an XSD, the default functionality is to respect that schema and not add extraneous elements. The only way to workaround this is to manually change it by saving the template as source files and going in and modifying by hand. I'm guessing that you didn't design the form this way. To remove the schema items is pretty easy but it could cause compatibility problems for existing XML forms.

If you can send us the XSN and pay for an hour of training we could help you fix this issue.
