How to hide the red marks around required fields until submitting?

Hi! In our forms all of the fields are supposed to be required. The issue is that when a user opens the form, it appears as a headache of red stars and stripes.... It looks not very nice at all! We manage to hide the red army by using data validation with an extra variabel to each field, and "delay" the validation of the field until the form submit. This works but are very time-consuming... anyone with an easier way??

Hi, an easy way to do that is to add some default value that is respect your conditions on data validations.

Thank you for your reply, but we don't want any default values. The point is that we want all the validation of drop downs, option buttons and check boxes to run when the form submits, instead of when the form opens. There must be others out here with an equivalent need?? Who wants to look at all the red dashes before they start filling out the form? We use IP 2007, but will soon be using 2010 if that can help us. F.x: maybe there is a writing code to run this operation? Code work in web forms in 2010, right? Please :)

Hi, I don't know any other easy solution. I don't know any way to change the validation of the field when you submit.

I think you can do it but it requires some code. You can create a group and reference all your field in this group, after that you create a new view like the first one but with the new referenced field, without any data validation and you make this as the default one. When the user try to submit, you clone your reference node and replace to your original group (or you can copy value per value), if some field is missing you don't submit and change view, here you can show your red dashes, if something missing.

You can create your own submit button and put some conditional formattings on it (if the fields are blank, disable). You can also use some textboxes to help (saying that all fields are required, or saying what fields are still blank).

    Hope this helps
