    Form checking updated version automatically

    Hi,

I have published my form to Sharepoint but users are capable of saving form to their desktop and send it from there. This creates problems with version updates to the form.

I've seen it possible for the form (when opened locally) to check automatically whether it is the latest version. But I cannot find or figure out that functionality on my own. Please help, thanks!

    Hi Tuomo,

Why not just disable save so they can't save locally? It's in the Tools->Form Properties tab in InfoPath 2007.

You can add an OnVersionUpgrade event handler that will fire when your form is opened and it gets upgraded. Not sure what you are going to do there, though.

Best practice is to always add non-required fields and don't delete or rename fields in data source. That way, the auto-upgrade will always work.

If you have to change the schema in a non-compatible way, publish the form as a separate content type. Old forms open with the old content type. New forms open with the newly published XSN.

Then, you can add a button to the old forms that converts them to the new.

    Lots of options,

Hi and thanks for your answer,

Basically the problem is that I publish my form to Sharepoint, and users can "save as..." that file to their desktop. Then they can open it anytime they want and will use old version unless there are some kind of check each time they open the form.

I'm not sure if OnVersionUprage is correct one for my purpose...?
