    InfoPath Client Open Behavior

    Hello all,

Thanks in advance for your insights. I have an InfoPath client form that displays different behavior when launching the InfoPath client in response to clicking "New" within a form library on SharePoint 2007. It seems that the InfoPath client fails to authenticate (i.e. it doesn't prompt for credentials) to the SharePoint server first and then trys to open the xsn file causing it to fail, stating either unspecified error or that the template cannot be found.

Very seldomly, InfoPath will prompt for authentication first after clicking "New" in the library and launching the InfoPath client, popping up the login window, accepting the credential, and then displaying the form correctly. Also, if I edit the form template, publish it, authenticate to the server, and then launch the form from the list, WITHOUT closing InfoPath after I publish, the form opens correctly because the client is already authenticated.  BUT if I publish, authenticate, and the close the InfoPath client, and then browse to the library and try to create a New form, the client fails to prompt for authentication and the form fails to open again.

     Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Hi Paradisp and welcome,

We would have to look at the data connections in your form template. I assume you are using a browser-based form. You should look at the data connections for clues as to why it's failing and then look at your ShP server log files for InfoPath Form Services. If you are not using browser forms, it's most likely a Windows client issue. There were bugs in Windows Vista that caused it not to authenticate well with SharePoint, but if you're running the latest service packs, that should not be an issue.

Sorry I can't be more enlightening here, but we would need to look at your solution. We don't provide free debug help for specific solutions in this forum, just general help on InfoPath. The general response here is that you need to look at your server logs and data connections first. Then, look at your client settings. Make sure the site is in Local Intranet (not Trusted Sites) when you browse to it in IE. Etc.
