InfoPath Dev

Hi all! My experience with InfoPath is very limited (both in 2007 and 2010) so I was wondering what would be best practice to hide certain fields based on a logged in user. Ideally I would like to hide fields based on the logged in users group membership and I was wondering if there is a way to do this out of the box. Thanks in advance for any replies. Cheers

Yes, you can utilize User Roles to do this very easily as long as it is rich client.  If it's a browser form, then you can use my blog posts.  They are for 2007 but work in 2010:

My 2nd method only retrieves Active Directory groups and not SharePoint groups.  To parse through SharePoint groups is tougher but can be done by using the UserGroup.asmx web service, but that whole idea is not "out of the box."

 I just found this blog, and as it was something I'd been hunting for for ages I thought I'd share it :

 

Custom SharePoint User WebService V1.0 - (useful to switch views depending on the current user's SharePoint groups in Infopath)
Actually the WebService has only one method: GetUserGroupsFromCurrentUser(). This method simply returns the current user's SharePoint Groups.
But there's a build-in SharePoint WebService which does the same?! Yes, that's right! But the built-in service doesn't work with Infopath 2007!
