How to perform data validation on Fields in Repeating tables

I have an Expense report form that is essentially a few fields in a Repeating table.  It sums it all up and we are good to go.  However, I have a need to be able to check that when the Consultant selects "Meals" from the Category, if the Project has a Daily Limit set (which I can pull into the form) that I am able to check that all the "Meals" for that day are Summed and do not exceed that Amount.  However, I can't realy figure how to do that validation.  Does anyone have any examples I can work from.  I am sure if I could see it, it would make total sense.

BTW, I do have a seperate running tally for the category.  I tried some Data validation on it, but can't get the Date reference right since it's a repeating table.  So I have:

    Date  IsEqualTo  Date

    The Expression: sum(/my:expenseReport/my:items/my:item/my:MealsAmt) > 50

However this just sums them all as I can't figure out a way to have it sum for each Day....

    Thanks,

    Nate
