Checkboxes in "section", wanting to fill a list box if checked

Checkboxes in section wanting to fill a list box if checked. I am able to write to a text box, but because the field is not repeating (an array of check boxes) I can't seem to populate a list box or combo box.

    Browser enabled form.

    Any thoughts?

if you want to fill(add options to) a list box based on which checkboxes are selected. you will need code for achieving this.

    create a repeating table

define this repeating table as "lookup values in the form's internal data" for the list box.

then add/remove from the repeating table based on the checkbox selection

Thanks for your expertise, I appreciate it.

Any other "no code" solutions to capture all my checkboxes into a summary. I was looking at a text box, but via infopath thats an enormus amount of editing. I was unable to edit the code outside of infopath, because when i brought it back in my schema code came in locked up. frustrating!

    your a rock star!

This is a huge discovery form me, but what makes this tick, Is there code that i can't see or did i fall off the edge somewher and miss a very basic element?

I have more questions than I have answers? One is this a browser compatible form? Two, should I be concerned about the "duplicate" field warnings? And Three, this is exactly what I have been trying to do, but I dont understand how "field one" adds 4 rows.(not 5 or 7...)  And I dont understand how the checkbox in "field two" is tied to the decision making to add to the summary box. I'm looking for rules and conditional formating and missing it.

So load me with knowlege of how you created the table of "4" rows(and how I can expand this) and how the checkbox acivated the summary? I'm making the assumption I can add the summary to another view without limitations as well.

well both tables are bound to the same repeating table. I have a conditional formatting on second table that states if check_box_field is not check (is false) hide the row.

yes the template is browser compatible. you dont need to worry about duplicate field warnings.

yes you can easily move the sumarry to another view that would be better. the attachment was only to guide you.

This was a minutes worth of your time but a game changer for me, I will rebuild my form based on this approach. I was looking for conditional format on the box, not the table. I found it. The other thing is the way you used the tools, form options, advanced tab. omg, after 200 manual entries i wish i was slapped up a long side the head earlier. I just knew there had to be an easier way.

easier way of using setting default values is -> tools -> default options, instead of going all the way through tools -> form options -> advanced -> default options.

a better way for you testing might be to fill a form save it somewhere on your local disk. then go to template

file -> preview -> preview settings -> set the file location.

so whenever you click preview you dont need to fill all that data again.

Last but not Least : There is always an easier way, that needs to be found

    Mr. Wizard I presume,

If my check box needs to be an interger how would you suggest tweaking this to work with the tables.

Or better yet, let me try and explain where I'm going with this. With your wisdom, you might point me in a different direction, or have a better solution. Your example "Question fields" will populate on my form with secondary data (description). If my secondary data  'flag' (in / out status) is unchecked (out), I want to grey out that row i.e. make it unavailable. (at a mimimum I can use conditional format on the checkbox based on the secondary data flag, I'm thinking out loud?)

In addition when the row is selected via the checkbox and added to "summary" I was hoping to make the checkbox an integer. I will use the integer(s) to add into a comma delimited file and upon submit use workflow to set the "flag" (out) in secondary data. (checkbox integer equals my secondary ID of the "description" thus upon submit item is flagged as out for next form)

I could use a rule for the checkbox, based on concatenation, but as of yet I've not sucessfully tackled the behavior to remove the integer from the concat, if the box becomes unchecked later?

I really appreciate your time and expertise.

    Qazi,

I was going down this happy road until I found out that repeating tables dont work with refresh or query commands. I used your sample (which i am greatful for) and added the ability to use secondary data into the form. I got over the fact that i could not sort the way the data comes in and found the inevitible workarounds and fix for that. But I'm pretty much shut down if there is no way to refresh the table data via a button click. The whole problem of once the form is submitted the data does not reload the next time you open the form for editing.

I'm getting close to pulling the plug on infopath and all its inherent limits and incompatabilites with sharepoint, and then theres the load times with sharepoint.... and the buggy nature of all that.

I'm thinking html 5 is the fix for all the worlds problems.....
