Delete an item from a drop down list

Hey guys, I am really new to infopath, so my question may be very simple. I am using the Service Request template and I want to remove some of the choices from the Service drop down menu (because I will not be using them at all) but I want to leave the connection to the Problem drop down menu for the existing Services. Any Ideas?

    Hi jasongrubbs,

I understand from your query that your template has “Service” and “Problem” dropdowns. I think you are getting dropdown values from secondary xml. If you remove some value from Service dropdown then you have to modify your secondary data connection once again.

    Please give more details.

    Hope this helps you

Yes, that is correct. The problem dropdown is linked to the Service drop down. How can I delete items from the service drop down?

    Hi,
when you are deleting some value from the service dropdown , you must delete the values from the problem dropdown those values are dependent on service dropdown deleted value.
Delete the values you want remove, from secondary xml's and once again modify your secondary data connections.

I hope this will help you.

Since you are editing an example form I think you will want to extract the form data from the form and edit the map.xml.

    1. Open your form in design mode.
    2. Choose Extract Form Files from the File menu.
    3. Extract the files to an empty folder.
    4. Open map.xml in a text editor
    5. Delete <svc:service> items that you do not want.
    6. Save the file, open the form in design mode again.
    7. Publish to a new location to repackage files.

Opening the map.xml might seem a little forboding at first, but you'll just be deleting a few sections of default data. You might look at Altova's XMLSpy (link provided on the left sidebar) to do the XML editing. I hope this helps!
