    Infopath Form using Webservice: returns results for me but no-one else

    Hi,

    I have form that uses a webservice (deployed via GAC) to return a series of results.

    I have tested this form from the server and I have now published it to a sharepoint library so other people can test (just for acces, no details are saved to the library) and it works perfectly for me. However, everybody else can access the form with no problems and enter search terms but when they hit the search button the contacting webservice message appears but no results are returned.

    I'm sure this is a permissions thing but don't have a clue where to start checking?

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

    Jen

    Hi Jen,

    Is it possible that you didn't change the data connection to use the SharePoint server machine and that you're still using LocalHost or something like that? If so, try updating the data connection Web Service to use the new server location and republish your XSN. Good luck!

    Hi,

    All the data connections in my form use the full address to the webservice.

    If this was the problem I'm guessing it wouldn't work for me from my normal machine but it does, which is why I thought it may be some kind of permissions issue.

    Any other ideas?

    As long as the Web Service is running on a machine in the same domain as the server where your InfoPath form is published, Domain Trust should be fine. Try to type in the Web Service asmx link on a browser on a machine of a user who can't access. If they can see the Web Service in the browser, than InfoPath should be fine. It could be related to what the Web Service is doing internally. What does your Web Service do? If it connects to SQL and those people don't have permission to access it, that could also be a problem.

    Thanks Patrick.

    Users who do not get any results can access the web service via the browser so thats ok.

    My webservice does query SQL, these are my connections:

    SqlConnection sqlCon = new SqlConnection("Data Source=(local);Database=C_A_D_Data;Integrated Security=True");

    SqlConnection sqlCon = new SqlConnection("Data Source=(local);Database=RecordsManagement;Integrated Security=True");

    We have similar webservices (which I have based my webservice on) accessing the sames data sources with the same connections and they work for everyone.

    As I say the whole thing works fine for me from a normal machine.

    Are your users using browser based InfoPath? If so, and you are using the rich client, that could explain it. You'll need to create a UDC connection for the Web Service. Go to data connections and click Convert and browse to the Data Connections Library on your SharePoint site where you can save the UDC file.

    Is the Web Service on the same machine as the SQL database? If not, the above connection strings will need to be updated.

    Do the users have access to the databases you are querying? If not, you'll have to add then.

    Just trying to think of other reasons... running out of ideas though ....

    Our users will be accessing the form from Infopath.

    I ahve just been playing with the sql permissions, testing for one person, and Ihave to change their rights to sysadmin to get the form to retrieve results from the database.

    This can't be right, can it?
