Route Infopath form to workflow based on form value

#1 I have no idea what I am doing.
#2 Please point me in the direction of a good resource that would help me accomplish this seemingly simple task.

I have created a rather simple straight-forward InfoPath form that I have hosted on my MOSS 2007 server in a form library. The scenario:

    1) Our company is segregated into "directorates".
    2) Each directorate has a program manager.
    3) A program manager is responsible for approving/rejecting any form submitted by personnel from their own directorate.
    4) My current form has a control at the top that the user must specify which directorate they belong.

Q: How do I program InfoPath and/or SharePoint to route the form, based on this singular value, to the workflow that would then forward the form to the appropriate program manager for processing?

I don't expect someone to do the work for me, but I have no idea where to start looking for answers.

promote that field(directorate) , and use that field in the work flow to identify the sort of action needed to be taken on that type of directorate.
