Cannot open attachments in browser forms

    Hello,

I have developed a form in InfoPath 2007 and published it as a browser form. I have put an "Attach file" control on the form so that my users are able to attach a file to the form. Now, when I attach a .txt file to the form, then it can be opened in Outlook 2007. But if I attach a docx or a xlsx or any other file, I get an error message in Outlook that says "the file is not a valid xml file" (it's in swedish so I hope the translation is correct). And the other message is (translation follows):

"Formuläret innehåller XML som inte går att parsa.
Ett ogiltigt tecken påträffades i textinnehållet.

    Rad 7, position 2246

    --------------------------"

Translated it will be like this "The form contains XML that cannot be parsed. An invalid character was found in the content" and then it says Row 7 and so on...

I am sure this worked before, and like I said - attaching .txt files works. Anyone who has a solution to this??

    Thank you!!

    /Lise

Hi Lisras Honestly, i don have any previous experience in attachments in InfoPath forms. but i want to turn your your attention to a thing i think it's your core problem in this case!

you said that you can attach .txt file wich is a text file! ok then you are able to attach text files :) and you said that you couldnt attach docx files! here i want to turn ur attention that docx is not a text file, actually it is a zip file contains many files!!!! yup it is true, docx is a folder (by the way, right click your docx fil and open with win-rar! what do you see?? definitely you see many files in it)!! you have to get sure if InfoPath supports zipped attachments, for me i dont know!

try to attach .doc file which was the extension in MS Word 2003! if it works then the problem is in the x-series extensions (docx, xlsx,...) please tell me if doc attachment works!!

actually, i dont know if this is the problem that you face! but i felt that i have to tell you about docx because its not like any other extension.

    hope it will help :)

    Osama Momani.

    Hi Osama!

Thank you for your answer! And yes, I am aware that the office 2007 files actually are zip files but I have tried with 2003 format as well (like .doc file). And same error I am afraid. I've also tried with jpg and gif files, just to make sure that the error has nothing to do with the 2007 format. The only file format that is valid - accordingly to Outlook - is a .txt file.

    Thank you,

    /Lise

    Cannot open attachments in browser

I have developed a form in InfoPath 2007 and published it on SharePoint site. I have put an "Attach file" control on the InfoPath form so that my users are able to attach a file to the form. Now, when I attach a .txt or doc file to the form, then save it. when I reopen or download the .doc file, it is opened as .aspx. So can u please tell me solution(I want to use InfoPath only)

Re: Cannot open attachments in browser

I'm also getting reports that some users in my organization are having the same problem Basheer is describing. It seems to be affecting IE 6 users that are opening browser based IP forms. When they they try to download an attachement they just an .aspx file instead of the attached document.

Has anyone found a solution to this?
