Issues creating MSI file in IP2007

    Hello,

I have form that is set to Full Trust and I wanted to create a MSI file to deploy my form template, but InfoPath isn't allowing me to do so. Instead, I get an error indicating that I need VS 2003 or 2005 in order to publish a MSI file. However, I do have VS 2005 Pro installed. In fact, I tried publishing the form to a MSI file within VS 2005 and no luck! Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

    Madhuri,

Thanks for your prompt response. I googled regform.exe, but I got references to the InfoPath 2003 SDK and I also searched the MS website, but it didn't help much. Do you have any information that can help steer me in the right direction with this?

    Thanks!

The only information I found was using regform.exe within VSTO 2005 Tools for Office, but I downloaded it and I found no update for RegForm.exe. There is a workaround for a js installer, but I feel that it would require too much input from our end users. We want to make this a discrete installation process.

    Hi:

I had this issue recently, where I was getting an error about VS 2005 not being on my machine. For me, the problem was caused by the presence of VS 2008 -- a shell installed when I installed SQL 2008 on my dev machine. Removing VS 2008 fixed this problem for me and has caused no issues for my SQL install.

Thanks for your response Hilary. I did installed SQL 2008 Express and I did have the VS 2008 shell, which I uninstalled with the Add/Remove programs applet, but InfoPath is still telling me that it cannot find VS 2005. This is funny, because when I use VSTO to modify the InfoPath form directly, I cannot select publish to MSI even within VS! I guess I'll have to go with the js installation file.

I repaired VS2005 by setting it back to its original settings and it worked! Now I have to figure out how to automate the installation process for this MSI file. Do you have any tips? I'll look throughout the forums for tips for the time being.

    If it's just installing the MSI, silent installation use msiexec.exe i\ file.msi /quiet /norestart

For installations while viewing message box with no prompts try msiexec.exe i\ file.msi /passive /norestart

logfiles can also be generated, for a full explanation of switches type msiexec /? in the Start/Run box and it will display the avialable parameters.

     Cheers,

    J
