    Data validation: Set as required

    Good morning,

I was wondering if there is anyway of determining what fields in the form have the status of required from the backend.  Basically, I have many fields in my form and I need to locate the field that I set as required at some point because I can't submit without clearing this setting on this field.  I simply have forgotten the field.  I already started to basically go through some of the fields that I have, but this particular form I am working on has close to a hundred or more fields.  If there is a way I can find this field from opening up another file after I extract form files?  I appreciate your feedback.

There are a number of different ways that a field can be set as "required."

Some are set in the schema (.xsd) file.  If a field must be present it will have its minOccurs attribute set to 1 instead of 0.

If a string type is set as "cannot be blank," it will be set as type requiredString instead of xsd:string, and numerical types that cannot be blank will not have the nillable="true" attribute.

Other validations specified in custom validation will be specified in the XSF file in the <xsf:customValidation> section.

I'd be happy to have a look at either of these files if you are still not sure where the troublesome node is.

    Jimmy,

Your decription on the various methods should be good enough.  I will take a shot at the methods above.  Thanks Jimmy for assisting me once again.  It is appreciated.

I found it Jimmy. It was one of my custom ones.

We have a taskpane tool that will show you the required fields. Doesn't work in browser mode since SharePoint doesn't support taskpanes, but if you're running the client, it could help people know where to go to finish filling out the form. Send us e-mail if you are interested. I'll try to get it posted to our site.
