    Installation Errors

    I am trying to install DBXL2.3 on a server where I previously had 2.2 running for test. Since installing 2.2 MOSS has been installed in this server (SERVER1). The SQL Server instance I am using is on another server (Server2)

    I have created a domain account to run the webservice QdabraWebs

    On Server1
    I have added the domain account into Administrators, WSS_WPG, IIS_WPG and WSS_ADMIN_WPG.

    On Server2
    I have added the domain account into Administrators, IIS_WPG
    I have added the account into SQL Server with Server role of database creator, and full permissions on master, the existing (QdabraDBXL and QdabraSamples databases) and the DB I want to access DB1.

    FROM SERVER1
    I have run the 2.3 install with the following...

    Logon

    configurable

    Account - QdabraWebs(no domain)

    Password - domain password

    SQL Server

    server name = Server2

    authentication = Sql server authentication

    Account - QdabraWebs(no domain)

    Password - Sqlserver password

    database = QdabraDBXL

    Domain Security

    DBXLAdmin = Builtin\Administrators

    Set Global user permissions = checked

    Admin group = builtin\administrators

    Active Directory Service (take defaults)

    Database Enumerator

    server name = Server2

    authentication = Sql server authentication

    Account - QdabraWebs(no domain)

    Password - Sqlserver password

    Default database = DB1

    When I test connection it is successful

    Samples (accept defaults)

    (I have tried other permutations of the above but always the same results - I have even tried dropping the two Qdabra databases (not ideal) before the install)

    When I click finish the install continues for a time and then crashes with the following....

    Error initializing DBL database. The request failed with http status 503: Service unavailable.

    The Event viewer shows multiple information messages.

    Including one which shows...Sharepoint Exclusion http://Server1/Forms sharepoint version2 not found (Sharepoint/Moss is on server1 but has a different http address- don't know if this is a problem?)

    A warning message IIS Application pool DBLAppPool1 already exists..

    A couple more information messages - then the error Error initializing DBL database. The request failed with http status 503: Service unavailable

    Please help...

    Thank you

    Hi Catharine,

    Just to clarify, what was the order of events?

    1. Installed DBXL v2.2

    2. Installed MOSS

    3. Uninstalled DBXL v2.2

    4. Installed DBXL v2.3

    Is this correct?

    Yes that is correct….

    The Server did have SharePoint loaded prior to the installation of 2.2.

    I did not need to use 2.2 for a while over the summer – during which time MOSS was installed .

    Then when I came to use it again – the service was not available (my assumption was it had not started up after a reboot..).  But I knew I wanted to use the latest version (to interface better with sharepoint) so I decided to de-install and install the latest version.

    MOSS 2007 and WSS v3 use a new local machine group WSS_WPG (similar to the IIS_WPG).  You will need to make sure the Network Service account (or whatever account the DBXL App pool is using) is in the WSS_WPG group.  After verifying that, do an iisreset and try accessing DBXL.  If it gives the same error, check the Application and Qdabra eventlogs.

    The I have double checked, the account is definitely in WSS_WPG.  And an IISreset has been done. No change to the installation errors.
