When checkbox ticked, enter specific text into another field

Hi all, Thanks for your help. I have a check box (HOAddress) and i have a text box (deliveryaddress). When the HOAddress is ticked, i would like the deliveryaddress to populate with text "2189". I have tried add a rule that when HOaddress is ticked, thus equals "yes", do the action, "set a field's value" = deliveryaddress = 2189. But nothing happens when i tick the checkbox. Confused, assumed this would achieve what i want. Any help, much appreciated. Thanks

    Hi, and welcome!

You'll want to verify that the checkbox control is equal to 'yes' when checked, and that the case is correct. One way to verify that is to temporarily add an expression box to your form, set to the value of the field bound to your checkbox, and see what text is displayed.... Usually when I've had trouble with a checkbox it is because the value isn't what I'd thought it would be.

thanks for the reply. I have confirmed all is correct. "yes" is shown when checkbox is ticked and that is what my rule has set. Any other suggestions, is there anything that needs to be set in the text box that will populate.

Well, you should just be able to set the rule on the field attached to the checkbox. Perhaps try taking the condition off the rule and see if the field is set when the checkbox changes, whether selected or not, just to make sure that the rule is firing and filling your field?

Just in case, here is a little sample form that puts "Hello World!" in a text box when you click the checkbox. I think the easiest way to grab it is to right click the link and 'save target as'....

Hi there, This appears to work OK for a text box that is unbound. As I wish to store the data in a database, there is a main connection to that database, and this field is bound to a field in a table. Would that make any difference ? Thanks

I wouldn't think so.... I did a quick test on my machine and had no troubles. My checkbox was bound to a boolean field, the condition was set to it being 'True' and when I checked it, my text box was set to the value in my rule...
