String operations on a text box control

Hi, I have a project requirement where I need to support following functionalities:

     1) My InfoPath form has a drop-down containing items with name-value pairs.

    2) On selection of any item in the drop-down control, I want to append this value into a multi-line text box available on this form.

    3) If the user places a cursor say on the 10th character of the text in the textbox, and selects some item from the drop-down, the selected value should get inserted at this 10th location.

    4) If the user has selected certain text from the text box and then selects a value from the drop-down, the value should replace the selected text in the text box.

Is it possible to handle such functionality through custom coding? Is it possible to capture the selected text / selected text length / selected text start position of a text both in InfoPath 2007? Can you please provide me necessary inputs?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Anjali

The hard part would be detecting character position.

When you select the drop down you would leave the text region

You would need to keep track of the last position or the user would need to enter that position.
