New database connection form and web service question

    Hello,

I have some questions concerning a new form I want to create that's going to submit data to a  SQL DB.  I created the connection to the primary table but I wanted to add the rest of my tables as secondary tables but when I go to do that, I can only submit to a web service or retreive from a DB.  I wisht to submit to a DB so do I have to go through a web service?  I have a default instance of IIS installed but I don't know what else I need to set up.  Any advice?

    Thanks in advance!

    PM.

InfoPath is picky about the kind of structures it will submit to when you use your main DOM as a DB connection. For example, it doesn't like Many-to-One relationships, while One-to-Many are okay. You are likely stuck in one of those unsupported scenarios. You can: Restructure to where the relationships are acceptable, create a WS that does what you need, or write code to do the submissions. You might also look at Qdabra.com's DBXL suite.

Thank you for the reply Greg.

I'm still a newb when it comes to SQL and IIS so how would i go about making the web service connection to the DB?  I have IIS installed (Default Website) but I'm unsure about how I customize it for submitting to a DB connection...

    Thank you!
    Phil.

Re: New database connection form and web service question

Creating a custom web service to your specific database is outside the scope of this forum. It will take quite a bit of research, development, testing and debugging. While it will take some time, if it is something interesting to you, it would be worth the time to learn it, but you will need to locate resources specific to buiding web services for that guidance.
