    Clay Fox:

    No this is all manual.

Default the field to the name of your current view and then when switching the view with your buttons add another action to update the field with the new view name.

This is exactly where I'm stuck "when switching the view with your buttons add another action to update the field with the new view name"

I have set the default value of my View field to FormRegistration. How can the View field autmatically be changed to the the name of the current view?

my submit buttons are not switching views. they are just submitting to sharepoint.

As I'm having problems with the customised submit buttons I'm not using them in my forms, so is there any other way to check for mandatory fields with the submit button in the toolbar?

You can access submit options from the tools menu. This is what the toolbar button uses.

Then you can switch to submit using rules.
