    Avoiding duplicate entries

    HI,

I have a form with a Ms Access connection which I submit and query to. I would like to however create a new record button which queries the database for an existing record before creating a new record using a field value entered by the user. If the value is already present in the same field in the database then the user should be denied from creating a new record. This is basically an effort to prevent duplicates.

My first thought is that the easiest thing to do would be to set the column which contains the value you want to perform your check againt as the primary key in you DB table. If you then have an Infopath template created from your database you shouldn't be able to insert a new row. If you have your database connection as the secondary data source the approach should be the same having a key value in your table but then you need to write the queries and inserts by yourself. Hope this helps.

Thanks, but would it be possible for you to provide me with the jscript for the actual new record button, so that I can add some conditions to it programatically, i'm using infopath 2003 and i am unable to include "actions" on the new record button ... the button has to check for duplicates and then run some script based on the result.
