Auto populate repeating table with data from a Sharepoint list using a item from a drop down list

    Hi

I know there are various tutorials about that show you how to auto populate a repeating table or just a field with data from a list or database when a choice is made from a drop down menu.

However I have a list with staff names which has a look up column to another list called teams. So in the staff list you have staff names and the team they are in.

In my form I have a drop down menu with the list of teams. I want set my form up so when a user selects a team from the drop down menu it auto populates the repeating table with all the staff members names from that team without having to manually click another row and another row as you seem to have to do with repeating tables to pull the data in.

Is the above at all possible? I am fairly new with Infopath but have created forumlas in Infopath so have a basic idea of getting around a form but any help would be great.

    Thanks

    Hey Rob,

    Three ways to do this:

    1. Use xpath filter in the form. Set up two data connections to ShP lists and two dropdowns that populate from them. Configure the second dropdown to filter values based on selection in the first.
      • Pros: easy to do
      • Cons: all data is pulled down to the form (i.e. if your list is mondo, you will see some load perf latency)
    2.  Use filterowssvr to dynamically filter on the server
      • Pros: only pull-down what you need
      • Cons: install free qRules trial that has code-less FilterOwssvr rule, or write code on your own
    3. Install a Web Service on your SharePoint box
      • Pros: fastest performance
      • Cons: you'll have to write your own Web Service or install a free trial version (for example, Qdabra's) to get the functionality you want

    Hope this helped somewhat...

    Hi Patrick

Thanks very much for your response.

I am not sure about having two dropdowns as you mention in option (1), if I have just one drop down and it listed say

    • Team A
    • Team B
    • Team C
    • Team D

If I selected any one of these teams is it possible for the repeating table to automactically then display say e.g.

    • Fred Bloggs
    • Dave Smith
    • Bill Smith
    • Sally Jones

Is this possible with option 1?

    Thanks

    Rob
