    Views and SharePoint security

I have a form that is accessed by 39 sites, they all need to see the top 20 rows and columns of the form, but they only need to see themselves (their row) in the rest of the form..how do you do this?

The users all have seperate user accounts for the list that contains the master document.....does this help.

This would be rather tricky.  You could build a form that was hard coded with 39 conditional formats to exclude rows by user name but that would be a nightmare.

I would recommend downloading the Database Accelerator. Qdabra Database Accelerator Suite Version 2.0 - Developer

With it you can put your data in a table and use views or permissionsto control it by user or group.

It also includes an active directory service so you can get that information easily.

So what I would recomend is adding a field to your table that has the group/site/user name and then you can use it to match with the AD information and control the UI.

It is a redesign but the best way to get the functionality. Plus then you can use the web services with other InfoPath solutions.

The Database Accelerator also has a SharePoint Webpart for integration too.

Let me know if you would like a demo.

Thanks Clay great advice as usual.

I am only on beta test at the moment with 2 sites so I am using views to seperate them, once we get the green light I'll definately investigate your accelerator and DB idea, could I use swl express for this or is it better to bite the bullet and use our full blown version (I was hoping to save htis for later work I have to do with forms and sharepoint)!

    SQL Express works fine too.

A lot depends on how far you are going with InfoPath and electronic forms.  I have been very successful, without DBXL, but it was a ton of work and I was always running into the inherent limitations of SharePoint or Database Forms.  And then the solutions were popular and they wanted more.  DBXL gives you so many resources and capabilities right out of the box that I would not want to do another enterprise class project without it.

If you could, I would try to architect it on DBXL and SQL. It will save you time and effort on the testing as well as make additional solutions a lot easier.  If you have a server ideally, or even a PC, that you can put SQL Express and IIS on then you have everything you need.

Again a lot depends on how your initial test go and the customer response. It sounds like you have a limited proof of concept and you have to sell that first.

Let me know if you need any assistance.  We have done lots of solutions and may have something similar that could be useful for reference.
