    Repeating Section question...

I am attempting to copy data (using "Rules") from one field to another.  The catch is that I am using a repeating section.  The text from the text boxes, etc. in the first repeating section needs to auto-populate the fields in another repeating section for every new section the user creates.  As long as the user does not opt to create a new repeating section, using the "Rules" works.

How do I go about auto-populating all the fields in the second repeating section, no matter how many new sections the user creates?

     Thanks in advance.

You have to use code to bulk copy.

You can use a set field action, with some kind of trigger, but then you have to specify each field and also it can only be one record to another record.  If you have to create multiple records then you need code to loop through. I believe Greg has some blogs on this subject.

I am not sure I know what search terms to use to find the blogs on the subject.  Is there a limit on the number of rules?  I am assuming that the more rules you have the slower the form?  I need to accomplish the same thing and thought that I could get RepeatingSection[@NodeCount]/my:Field1 where @NodeCount is the count of the node but it will not allow me to do that.  I will have in my largest form around 200 repeating sections which if I use rules will require me to have the max amount of possible repeating sections - probably 250 to be safe with each rule containing 6 set field parameters.  Will the form become unusable with that many rules?

That is not best practice and probably will effect performance. Plus it is a real nightmare to create and manage the form.

If you need some assistance with architecture drop me an email and we can discuss.
