    Can InfoPath meet my needs?

    Hi Everyone,

First off, I have next to none experience with InfoPath… I do however work in a corporate office and need to create a questionnaire to a universe of 500 people.

I want to impress my boss by having a survey tool... Respondents will be using their web browser to open up a form... Can they fill it out and have their responses collected in a excel/access database.

Before I move forward – what do I need?

I have access to any software.  What will it take to have respondents have interaction with the forms AKA questionnaire using only their web browsers

    • Right now I’m getting SharePoint Server 2007

Beside the required software can InfoPath perform the following without have the clients installed – respondents will be using their web browsers

    • Have 1 question per page… they need to click next button to continue to next page
    • Have validation – like if the field requires numerical responses or needs to add to a certain total or remember previous responses?
    • Skip patterns – depending if they choose “yes” or “no” then the branch to different questions

Hi there and welcome to the InfoPath Dev forums.

InfoPath could be a very good tool for this, SharePoint 2007.  I am assume that by "SharePoint Server 2007" you mean "Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) with InfoPath Form Services?  You will need the InfoPath Form services setup and enabled in order for the browser forms to work.  InfoPath Form services works with MOSS 2007.

You should be able to create a browser based form with the 3 items you mentioned.  When you design your form in InfoPath 2007 there is a build in design checker that will tell you if a control you have added is or is not browser form compatible.  Make sure you turn on the option in InfoPath to design a browser compatible form so you check regularly as you design your survey.

Since you are using SharePoint for this you will be able to extract the form data from SharePoint and export to Excel or Access.

    Good luck
