    Secondary Datasource problem

    I've added a secondary datasource on my form to display a employees name in stead of an employeeID. This works fine as long as I do data entry. But, if run a query, I see the employeeID en no longer the employee name.
    And once again, being a newbie, I have no cleu on what I did wrong.

    Some additional information:
    - Infopath 2003
    - All data resides in a SQL database.
    - I have noticed that as soon as I change 1 field in any record and submit the change, everything shows up as it should.

    Hi stumbler,

    If in case of having employee id and employee name in your db, once check the binding of the employee name field in your form if it#%92s ok go to refresh the connection of your secondary data source.

    Hope this may work for you.

    Shiva,
    Thanks for your reply, but what do you mean by 'refresh the connection of your seconday data source'? How fo you do that? If you mean rebuild it with 'tools -> data connection ...' I already tried this without any result.

    hi,

    Where you are getting the employee id instead of employee name. Is there any rules applied on the EmployeeName text box? Can you give the repro clearly.

    There are no Rules applied, however there is also a filter applied to make sure that when entering an new record, thev user can first select a department and next pick an employee from that specific department.
    The filter reads "orgunitdesc=orgunitdesc" or in Xpath format
    @OrgUnitDescr = xdXDocument:get-DOM()/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:LOCALSALES/@OrgUnitDescr

    Re: Secondary Datasource problem

    just to make everything clear:
    there is only 1 dropdownbox containing the EmployeeID en showing the EmployeeName.

    My Drop-Down List Box Properties
    Binding
    Field name = EmployeeID

    List box proberties
    Data Connection: ActiveEmployees
    Entries: /dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:EMPLOYEE[@OrgUnitDescr = xdXDocument:get-DOM()/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:LOCALSALES/@OrgUnitDescr]
    Value: @EmployeeID
    Display name: @Employee (Employee contains the employeename)

    After I run a query, I get to see the EmployeeID and not the Employee. After a submit, everything turns out OK.

    Can anyone help?

    Re: Secondary Datasource problem

    Hi Hans,

    This is weird. You should make sure that one of the /myFields/queryFields is not set to something that will prevent the Employee column from being returned. I don't know what the problem is, but to help debug I'm sure it would be helpful to put every single node on the view as a field, and then watch the values as you see the problem occur. Surely with this you can see why things are happening they way they are.
