Make change to XML Schema Main Data Source

I've written a couple of Biztalk XML schemas for processing data, and I use these schemas to generate forms in InfoPath and make some changes to data.

As customers think more about the solution it has become necessary to add new fields to the schemas to capture more information. This is easy enough in Biztalk, but it looks like I can't update the XML schema in InfoPath - if I want to add new fields to the form I have to create an entirely new form based on the XML schema and re-arrange all the controls.

This can't be true - the forms can take hours to design and get the validation working. How can I update the main schema that is the backbone of the form?

Typically it is not a problem to add fields to an existing form. Changing fields names or removing fields is what can break existing forms with their templates. You should be able to update your template to incorporate the new fields and modify the form. You also can clone a form and then develop it and leave the existing template in tact if you want to keep existing forms looking the same.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Markperry,

Do you want to change the main schema right? Then no need to work on designing of the form and validations again.

You need to open the myschema.xsd file in editor mode. You can add the new fields exist field names changes and save this file open the manifest.xsf file. Then you can see whatever changes you have done in that file in data source of design of this form. Before making this changes you need to take a back up of existing .xsn file.
