    Infopath Template locations

Ok. I ahve created an infoPath Form Template file on my computer at work. I tried to copy the template file to my laptop and run it while away from office. It give me security errors followed by Something saying that it is not in the right path?!

I was assuming that a Template file was not hardcoded to a specific path on the machine as it seems to be from what I am reading. Is there a way to make a Template file "portable"?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Taen,
Yes we have a way to make a Template file "Portable", you can send temple file as an file attachment and for this you have to have outlook setup. To make the Template file Portable please follow the following steps.
    1. Open the Infopath form(created by you).
    2. Go to File -> Send to mail recipents.
    3. Give the mail address and send the template.
    4. Now Open Outlook mail on your laptop and work offline(away from office).

    Hope this helps!

    Hello Taen,
Can you add the site to Trusted sites and try out. To Add site to trusted site please follow these steps:
    1. Open your site.
    2. Go to Tools -> Internet Options.
    3. Click on Security tab in Intenet Options window.
    4. Select Trusted sites and click on Sites... button.
    5. Your site address will be displayed in "Add this Web site to the Zone:" text box, Click on Add button.
    6. Your site address will be moved into Web sites, Now click on close button and then OK button.

Now try to open the form which you got in email.

    Hope this Helps!

    Re: Infopath Template locations

I dont understand where you got "Site" from as I ahve no website. I manually copied the Template to my computer and it gives me a message as follows:

    Insufficient Security Privilege

This form cannot be opened because it requests domain security level and is only allowed restricted security level.Based on the information in the form, the file should be located at "file:..."(the location that it prints out is on my local hard drive at work)in order to open with the correct security level.

So it has nothing to do with site locations but rather domain security and template file location. Please let me know if there is a way around these two issues.

You cannot copy a template published to another location to your local computer and work with it. In order for the form to work properly you either need to publish the form to your local machine or you need to maintain the same folder structure in all the machines that you intend to use it from and place the template.xsn file in folder.

If you intend to use the form in any location it is better you create an MSI and use it to install the solution in the locations.

I had no idea that you could install infopath forms using an MSI installer. I ahve VS .NET 2005...any ideas on how to accomplish this with a form template that I ahve already created?

Thanks for the inof above as well. I knida figured someone was gonna tell me that...=^(

    Re: Infopath Template locations

VS2003 allowed you to use the free IP SDK regform.exe utility. If you have 2005, this no longer works. I believe the only way to deal with this is to buy VS Tools for Office which is several hundred USD. As someone who upgraded to VS2005 and can no longer use regform, I am really quite fed up! If anyone knows a workaround I would love to hear about it.

    Hello taenkarth,
To create msi you have to install Infopath SDK. Infopath SDK has regform.exe tool which is used to create msi. To create msi please follow these steps:
    1. Publish your solution to local machine.
    2. Open cmd.
    3. Run this
    regform.exe /u urn:MyForm:MyCompany /FT "Form name" /C "Company name" /V 0.0.0.0 /T Yes /O "output file name" /MSI /LANG ENG "C:\InfoPath\MyForm.xsn (the path where you have published the solution)"
    4. msi will be created.

Its better to publish to a web server or a sharepoint server if multiple people want to use it, because if a change is made to the solution template, everyone person using it will have to uninstall/reinstall the solution template again on their machines.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. Yeah that is a good solution but like you said kind of limited when having an office of 15 that potentially need to use it. I do have it published to a Sharepoint Site currently however the forms I create with it, Once I change the template they never open again. Also i cannot seem to find a way to run a report against a Sharepoint library of forms.
