I have a Sharepoint file that has the following column headings: Project Number; Title; Date Created; Notes; Assigned To.

 Then under all of that there are Contact Company names with a + sign in front of them. I click on the + and it opens up to show some information about that entry. I then can click on the Title and it will open another page where there are fields named Project Number; Contact Company; Contact First Name; Contact Last Name; Address; Phone; Email.

 I want to be able to have a pull-down menu be populated with the listing of project numbers and then a text box to be filled in with the cooresponding Contact Company name. Can anybody help me with this?

pull-down menu do you mean drop down.

Yes, I mean drop down list.

create a secondary data connection to this list in infopath select project number and contact company, bind the drop down to the project number, and put a rule on drop down

in the rule set the value of text box to contact company from the data connection filtered on project number selected in the dropdown

Ok, on the dropdown I went through the data connection and chose the project number and the contact company. I then chose the folder that contained those 2 fields and that is listed in the entries box. In the values box and in the display name it is project number. The rule on it is the dropdown box field = project number.

 I have not set up anything on the text box for the contact company as I can't get anything to be in the dropdown list.

you have to bind project number only to the drop down, and write a rule on the dropdown to set the value of text box to contact company filtered on project number = drop down value
