New Field Added is Display Only

I have an InfoPath form that I submit to a SharePoint site. Currently there are hundreds of forms that have been submitted. I recently added a new field to the form. When I create a new form doc, the field works fine. However, when I open a previously created form, the field appears as display only. Why? I can't fill in this field on any of the forms that were created prior to the new field being added.

    Hi,

I didn't understand where you can't fill the new field value for the old forms,if it is in the share point site promoted fields then,
for that you have to check the "Allow Over write if file exits" option while publishing the template. By this option the new form is resubmitted by updating/overwriting the old form including in the share point promoted fields also.

Note:I think you can fill out the new field value in the InfoPath form because you are saying as you can fill that value for the new fill out forms. So, you can definatly overwrite the new field for the old forms also, until you didn't use any conditional formatting or rules for that new field .

I hope the given information is useful to solve your problem.

    Hello,

I hope you might have republished the form after changes to the same form library. Now In the Sharepoint site select Modify settings and Columns and then select Relink forms to this form library.Select all the Old Forms and Relink them

I hope this will help you.

I tried resubmitted the form and the field still does not work. I also tried a relink but all the forms are already linked correctly.

I created two more fields and added them to the form, and I am having the same problem. Both fields are only editable with new forms. In the old, previously created form documents in SharePoint, the fields show as read only.

A few other notes: my form is linked to an Access database. The new fields I am adding are not tied to the database (I don't want the values stored in the database).

    Some additional clarification...

    1. I created a form that is tied to an Access database.
    2. I set up the form to submit to the Access database and a SharePoint library.
    3. I published the form to a SharePoint library.
    4. I created several new form documents using the "fill out this form" button on SharePoint. The forms were submitted to the database and the SharePoint library.
    5. I opened the form template and added a new non-database field to the form.
    6. I added a new field to the Access database, refreshed the data source in the form template, and added the new database field to the form.
    7. I saved my changes (and I've republished a couple of times just to see what happens)
    8. I return to the SharePoint library from #4. I currently have three form docs that I created from step #4.
    9. I open one of the existing form documents.
    10. I can see the two new fields from #5 and #6 (non-database and database), however, the fields are not editable.
    11. I can edit and submit any of the fields that existing in the original form I created.
    12. I close the form doc.
    13. I click "fill out this form" in the SharePoint library to create a new form doc.
    14. I can edit ALL of the fields (including the new fields) in the new form doc.

#10 is my issue. Why can't I edit the new fields in the existing forms?

Does this make sense? It would probably be easier to understand with screen shots.
