My team has developed an ActiveX control for InfoPath forms that is a custom ComboBox with a dropdown supporting hierarchical information representation/selection. We also have a validity inferencing engine that constrains the values available in the dropdown based on the selections currently made in the other controls on the InfoPath form. We have everything working now with some minor bugs (mostly display issues), but we found the integration to be full of what we consider to be kludgey workarounds. The problems centered around passing information between the controls and the FormCode. Really, we'd like to have an eventing relationship between the ActiveX controls and the FormCode but we found we always had to go through making changes to the XMLDataModel linking the Form and the Code... Are there any best practices for establishing more complex interrelationships between FormCode and ActiveX controls that anyone could point me to? I've read all the stuff on the InfoPath Team Blog and msdn and it was very helpful, but it didn't have pointers to interacting with more complex code solutions... I can provide more details about our specific problems if anyone's interested but am really only looking for suggestions on best practices...
