    InfoPath forms in Sharepoint library opening as HTML code

    I have an odd issue.  I have one user who is no longer able to open the InfoPath 2010 forms that we have stored in Sharepoint libraries (we use WSS3).  She was able to access them properly a couple weeks ago but now they don't open in InfoPath, they open in her browser as the HTML code.  No one else is having this issue and she is able to open regular InfoPath forms properly.  For example, individual InfoPath forms that are just listed in Sharepoint with a link open correctly in InfoPath.  The ones she's unable to access are where they're published to the Sharepoint library and created via the New button.  She's not trying to create new ones, just trying to access what's already been saved to the library.  All of our InfoPath forms are set as InfoPath Filler forms, not browser forms.  I don't know if there is some setting that was somehow changed on her machine but I'm rather stumped.  I Googled but wasn't able to find any posts from anyone else having this issue.  Any ideas or suggestions?  The sample below is what she literally sees when she opens a form. Thanks for any help!

    That is actually XML that's being displayed, not HTML. Could it be that somehow on her machine InfoPath isn't correctly associated for XML file types?

    Thanks for the reply, Hilary.  I checked my associations and hers and they're identical so I don't think it's that.  And as I mentioned, "regular" InfoPath forms open properly for her in InfoPath.  It's only the ones that are published to a Sharepoint library that are causing an issue.

    Sorry, I missed that point!

    What about IE settings? Can you compare the settings from a working machine with the one that is not working?

    I had originally done a quick look at the IE settings but I didn't see anything that seemed like it would affect it, although maybe I missed something.  I did try it in Chrome with the same results though so I don't think it's specific to IE.

    Do other Office items open as expected from SharePoint on that machine? Word, Excel, etc?

    Yes, she is able to open all other docs.  It's literally just the forms that are published from InfoPath to Sharepoint form libraries that are causing the problem.

    How odd. I guess at this point I'd probably try repairing InfoPath.

    I could not grasp: what is "regular" Infopath forms? the ones linked to XSN templates on network shares (if they are not linked to a published to a library Infopath form template)?

    Then, could you please edit your texts to explicitly name "library" terms by "document library" or "form library" as well as term "form" by .XML form or XSN form template ?

    I have a CRC (cyclic redundancy check) error in my head when I am trying (in vain) to understand the phrases like:

    • "The ones she's unable to access are where they're published to the Sharepoint library and created via the New button.  She's not trying to create new ones"

    Re: InfoPath forms in Sharepoint library opening as HTML code

    Sorry for the confusion.

    You are correct - when I said "regular" InfoPath forms, I meant forms that we have published to a network drive and have a link to within a Sharepoint document library.  Those open properly for her within the InfoPath application.

    The issue is with the forms published to a Sharepoint form library.  Those now open as XML within her browser but used to open properly within InfoPath (she last opened something a couple weeks ago).

    I mentioned opening via the New button to describe the form library; sorry for not wording that better.  I only mentioned that she's not trying to create new forms because I didn't know if that made a difference versus just opening an already-created form.

    This your XML seems to have been screwed by having:

    • "I" instead of "1"
    • "O" instead of "0"
    • "j" and "I" instead of "/"
    • "%20" instead of "-"
      %20 should be used for space but you have the name а form library as Asset-Status-Reports not Asset Status Reports
    • " I' instead of "l"
    • etc.

    My XML is:

     <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <?mso-infoPathSolution solutionVersion="1.0.0.2" productVersion="14.0.0" PIVersion="1.0.0.0" href="https://gennadyvanin.sharepoint.com/Web1/FormLibHTML/Forms/template.xsn" name="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:infopath:FormLibHTML:-myXSD-2012-08-17T02-19-25" ?>
    <?mso-application progid="InfoPath.Document" versionProgid="InfoPath.Document.3"?>
    <my:myFields xmlns:my="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2003/myXSD/2012-08-17T02:19:25" xml:lang="ru">
        <my:field1>ffffffff</my:field1>
    </my:myFields>

    And, I would have avoided spaces and non-letter-digit symbols in library, template and forms/docs names.
    Infopath and Sharepoint get screwed on them sometimes (and sometimes=frequently for me)

    The XML is not the issue.  This form works fine for everyone else, it is only one person who is unable to view it in InfoPath.  It is instead showing up in her browser as XML.  I would assume that there is a setting on her machine that needs to be changed so that it uses InfoPath and not the browser, but I don't know what that may be since the associations are all the same as mine and mine works fine, as does everyone else's.  Is there possibly a setting somewhere that relates to Sharepoint form libraries and how the documents open?

    The sample I pasted in was just to give an example of what she sees.  I had copied and pasted and things may have altered in that process, not sure.  But regardless, the XML isn't an issue or it wouldn't be working for everyone else.

    Re: InfoPath forms in Sharepoint library opening as HTML code

     Hi,

    I know the last entry was way back in 2012, but I stumbled on this post, and was hoping to find an answer.

    I've experienced the same issue in my organization, where only 1 user has difficulty opening a particular InfoPath form after is it saved on the SharePoint site as an XML link. Normally for all users, clicking on the XML link re-opens the form in the browser, allowing them to do further edits. In this user's case, it shows XML code.

    Strangely, this user does not have this problem with other InfoPath forms.

    Here's the sequence of events, if it helps:

    1. User logs into SharePoint site.

    2. He clicks a link to launch the fillable  form. Fills some text, clicks Save. (This saves it to a document library).

    3. On the users home page there is a webpart, with a <filename>.xml link to that particular form.

    4.  User clicks on this link, and instead of it opening in the browser, it displays XML code.

     Since I have administrator access to the document library, I can open his file without a problem. I even deleted it and had him start from scratch without any luck.

     I'm wondering if one of you SharePoint experts out there can pin-point the problem. We have SharePoint/Infopath 2013.

    Thanks
