    InfoPath Tab order- behaving strange

I had this strange behavior with infopath using RichText control.

Tab Order jumps to the address bar when using RichText. when I change them to

    multiline tab order is proper.

(Form has a contact selector control where the control initially goes on loading of the form. After that on

hitting TAB directlygoes to address bar, then to page refresh, submit, printview...)

I did tried with setting the Tab Order 0,1,2... didnt work either )

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    ramii

    hi ramii,

i dont know what exactly you mean by multiline of richtext coz richtext is always multiline. Any ways, i also faced such type of problem in which on pressing tab on some fields the tab goes to address bar. i found out that this happened to only those fields on which postback functionality has been set other than never. check if this is case with you also .

to change the postback setttings right click the field -> go to properties -> browser forms -> select never.

     Hi Qazi Anis,

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry for any confusions.

Multiline I mean by multiline textbox. Like I said initial control Contact selector does the postback and to its continuation had couple of dropdowns which needs to do the postback at the end of those I had this richtext control which when replaced by multiline textbox gives proper tab order.

Also, initial contact selector followed by drop-downs are required on the form. If this strange behavior is only due to postback, why it works fine when richtext control is replaced by multiline text controls.

    I appreciate your help.

    Thanks,

    ramii

    Hi Ramii,

if you change the postback settings of richtext box, it should not cause any trouble to you. The default settings is "Only when necessary for correct rendering of the form". It might be happening that IP decides to do a postback when the rich text box undergoes some changes and the same thing does might not happen for multiline text box.

Just check if it works fine with postback set to never for rich text box. Hopefully it should

     Hi Qazi Anis,

Thanks again for your quick reply. I did tried richtext controls on form not to do postback.  But it didn't fix the tab order.

    Hi ramii,

Avoid using richtext boxes unless u really need them, richtextboxes are resource intensive and that might be the cause of your slow performing forms. as far as tab order is considered, you either put as tab index for every thing or explicitly gives tab index starting from 1 on wards. see if that resolves the problem. i guess after you move from the rich text box there is no other control with tab index greater than that of richtextbox and that is causing it to jump to address bar.

The reason people choose Rich text is because the multiline text box does not wrap in Chrome browser and in IE it wraps but cuts words in half. This is a known issue still to date.
