Need assistance with creating a formula in InfoPath

I created three section of table data and a total field (calculated value) that adds up the data from each section. I now need to create a formula that adds two of the sections (total) together and then divides that by the 3rd section. When I try what makes logical sense, I get the following message in the field : -1.#IND I tried just adding all of the fields to the formula and adding them together and then dividing by the sum of the 3rd sections field, but the amount is incorrect. I then tried creating a custom binding for each total field and then simply adding those two bindings together and dividing by the 3rd binding and that is when I get the message above and no data gets displayed in the field. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you attach your form or a sample that shows what you are trying under the Options tab in a reply? I can give you a hand.

Re: Need assistance with creating a formula in InfoPath

I have added the attachment. I am trying to add the total of section one (example yr 1) and the total of section 2 (yr 1) and then dividing that sum by the benefits section total (yr 1) to get the ROI total (for yr 1) as a perecentage (ex. 24.75%) Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!

Okay - so in Totals, OTCEYR1 would be OTCE Fields 1 - 12 added together, OTCEYR2 would be OTCE 13 - 24 and so on? Is this form in production yet, or are you still in development? I ask because I think this would be MUCH easier to work with if you had a more normalized schema (repeating tables / groups).

You are accurate with your assessment. This is not in production. I am only testing this out currently. I am fairly new to InfoPath, so trying to determine if I can recreate an excel spreadsheet using InfoPath and eventually populating the data into Project Online. Thanks!

Okay - later today I'm going to set up a sample for you with the data source restructured to simplify this. It may be the end of the day before I have a chance, but I think you will have an easier time with this form if we set it up to have a more normalized schema.

Right click the link in the message and Save As (or save target as, whatever your browser calls it) to save the file locally. Right click the saved file and select Design to open in Design mode - I've added a few explanatory notes in the template, but preview it so you can see it with all the default rows present. Hopefully this will be a little easier to work with. :)

Re: Need assistance with creating a formula in InfoPath

Thank you. This definitely simplified things for the 3 sections, however, I cannot for the life of me figure out the RoI and Annualized 5yr Return calculations. In a spreadsheet shared with me in excel, the formula is the total of Benefits (Yr1) divided by total of one-time cost estimate (yr1) plus total of ongoing cost estimate (yr1). This should be shown as a percentage. The 5 yr annualized return formula should be: (ROI for yr1 + 1) times (ROI for yr2 + 1) times (ROI for yr3 + 1) times (ROI for yr4 + 1) times (ROI for yr5 + 1) ^1/5 power (also shown as a percentage) Any idea how to handle this? Thank you.

In the attached sample, I've added fields for the ROI and calculated values for Y1 & 2 - here's a link on dealing with NaN and Infinity in InfoPath: http://www.braintrove.com/id/71

I'm not very math-y and don't know how one would implement "^ 1/5 power" in InfoPath.
