Fetching data from Sql database with millions of records

Hi All, I am working on a requirement where user needs to enter first name , last name and all matching records will be pulled from database and displayed . I have created a SQL Server dataconnection and used repeating section to display the data. But when i click on button, i get timeout error. Is it that as database has 8 million records, initially it will pull all the records? Can we filter the data to be pulled from database? If not, what is the best approach to implement this requirement. vl really appreciate if anyone can help me with this Thanks Harman

By default, InfoPath is returning all the records. The only way to change the query InfoPath is sending to SQL is via code (or a product my company makes called qRules - it can do this too). Are you able to add code to the form? Oh, another option would be to use a web service to query your SQL DB - again, we have a product for that or you can write your own. Here's a post that has some code for querying: http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/t/23018.aspx

InfoPath can connect to SOAP or REST. :)
