    Rules to Validate 10 fields

Hi - Been working with InfoPath for 3 days now and have managed to get a lot of programming help from this site.

My form cannot use the submit button as it's got a 3 step process using each for a different function (submit, review, approval) and all of my buttons have rules tied to them.  Also once one is clicked it will hide the button and unhide the next step.

When I originally designed the form with the submit button it was validating the required data that's not allowed to be blank.  But now that I'm using the Actions/Rules style buttons it just shows an error that some of the rules were not applied.  What's the easiest way to manipulate 10 fields that are required to not be blank and ensure they contain data before allowing the rules/action button to proceed.

    Hi Jim,

I understand that you would like to discontinue an action if conditions aren't met. One quick solution is to add an error message field to your schema, then insert a rule to your button before it proceeds to the next action. Set this newly added rule to set an error message to the error message field added earlier, and click the  check box "Don't run remaining rules if condition has been met". The last thing needed is to set the condition of the rule, so  that it would correctly prevent the remaining actions from proceding.

You will also need to add a rule to set the error message field to blank, when the action continues.

    Hope this helps.
