Very basic newbie question re capabilities of Infopath

Hi Folks, I'm a complete newbie on Infopath - until this morning I didn't even know it existed! I'm looking into ways of sorting out staff timesheets that will also allow me also to track information about individual projects - each week i have timesheets from about 10 staff, each working on lots of different projects rather than any one job for lengthy periods of time. What I'd like is for the staff to enter the hours spent on each project in their individual timesheets then for managers to be able to access information relating to a particular project without having to manually look through all the separate timesheets. I know that I can easily create the timesheet form, what I'm not sure of is how I can actually then use the information collected - particularly as most of the team's computers do not have Infopath or Sharepoint installed. Some advice on whether Infopath is the right tool for the job would be really helpful, then I can decide how much time to put into learning how to use it.

OK, having read up a little more and had a play around with the programme it looks pretty simple to set up and publish a timesheet form using InfoPath, though I'm still a little confused about how to translate that into the reporting / project tracking functions that I'm after. Various blog posts, forum Q&A, wiki entries etc mention integrating the forms with SharePoint and/or Access databases - is this the best / only way to proceed?
