InfoPath Dev

In my form am using two connected fields, ie, parent, child. The work fine. However, sometimes after I have selected a parent child pair of values I need change the parent but on doing so the former child remains and appears a member of the new child list for the new parent. I want to be able to clear the child value when I click on the parent drop-down to select a new parent.

 Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Hello infopathy,

The best way to accomplish this logic would be to add an action rule on the parent dropdown to set the child dropdowns to blank. If that is not what you had envisioned, reply with a few more details or an example of your form and I can provide some more suggestions.

Hi Brea,

I got my solution. Turns out the instruction "...Second, uncheck the “Automatically retrieve data when the form is opened” does not work -- at least for me in SP 2013/InfoPath 2013. It took me having to reproduce my second field, Subcategory, and leaving that option checked.

I then followed the balance of instructions down to "...If you preview your form now you should be able to select a region and see the correct list of offices populated." and it worked.
