UpdateListItems - How to display dropdown / radio buttons?

I have followed the instructions from this post and have gotten the UpdateListItems web service data connection to work properly: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/infopath/2007/03/26/submitting-to-a-sharepoint-list/

My browser-enabled form template has the employee suggestion, then it displays the comments that have been submitted so far (read only) related to that specific suggestion, and then below that are fields for the current user to enter and submit additional comments. (I wish I could insert a screenshot but I don't have a public web location to save it to.)

It's super exciting that I've gotten even that much to work but in order to make this as user-friendly as possible, all day I have been trying to figure out how to do the following:

    1. Display the field descriptions instead of the field names ("Recommend for Implementation?" instead of "RecommendImplement").

    2. Display the field types as anything other than text fields. The Office field should be a dropdown menu which is populated from another list of office names; the RecommendImplement field should be either radio buttons or a dropdown menu with the options "Yes" and "No".

But I can't figure out either one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

You can attach a screenshot under the Options tab - just save it locally on your machine as an image, and you can then add the file to a reply. If item 1 is simply your column header in your form, you should be able to change that text? But maybe I don't understand... Oh - you can also attach your template under the Options tab instead, then I can see the form & give you hand!

I should add - if you need to get the Office data from another list, add a data connection to that list, and use that for the data source in your drop down. :)

Hi Hilary - thanks so much for responding! I've attached the screenshot - and if there's a way for me to email you the form template personally, I'd prefer that.

I do know how to populate dropdown menus from other lists - my issue right now is that I've got a library-based, browser-enabled form template that's used for employees to submit suggestions and I'm trying to:

    1. display data from another list (a "Comments" list) inside the library form template so that when you open the suggestion you see the existing comments related to it (this works)

    2. allow the user to enter additional comments and submit them back to the "Comments" list (this is the part I'm having trouble with - it technically works but it doesn't look pretty)

The only reason I'm even trying to do this rather than have them enter the comments right into the suggestion form is because I figured this method could help me get around the issue of one reviewer entering in their comments at the same time that another reviewer is entering their comments and then user #2 getting an error message because the form is actually read only for them because someone else had it open. (That's what would happen in that scenario right?) So if we have the comments submitted to a separate Comments list then they are submitted as individual list items and we don't have to worry about people trying to revise the same library form at the same time.

I'd actually change the form to use main data source fields & rules to then set the CAML fields prior to submit - that would give you much more control over layout and control type. I'm going to email you a sample.
