Can an InfoPath Form Web Part Cause a Page to Refresh?

Hi, I have a situation where users will be using a contacts management page in SharePoint / InfoPath 2010. This is all browser based, and the page I'm working with has an embedded InfoPath form injected with Qrules that makes a submission to two lists (Contacts, and Relationships) when the user clicks submit. Also on the page is a list web part that show the users their contacts as a filtered list. What I'm looking to do is cause either the entire page, or the list web part to refresh after the user has clicked submit, clear the form, and notify the user (in the form) that the operation was successful. Right now I have all but the refresh accomplished. Is there a way to do this? Can InfoPath trigger the event? I tried the automatic refresh on a time interval, but the refresh caused issues when the user was entering data into the form that caused the page to skip around and input to be lost. I've thought about having a web part connection to something that could be triggered upon a successful submit, and then send a value from the InfoPath web part to this target web part, and when received refresh the page. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure this is possible, or how to do this. Thanks in advance.

    Hi BritGeek!

Can you use Web part connectors to refresh the list web part?

Another idea would be to create a separate InfoPath form inside an InfoPath Web part and to use this instead of the stock list web part. Then you can use web part connectors between the two InfoPath web parts to refresh one another.

So, yes, I believe it's possible so long as you are using an InfoPath form with a rule and a list query to display the data. When the input web part value changes, just requery the list and the InfoPath dashboard web part will display the refreshed data.

We're doing a webinar next week (Thursday at 8am Pacific) on how to use InfoPath as a SharePoint dashboard design tool - i.e. not for forms, but for displaying SharePoint data. Highly recommend you join us for that.

We love you for using qRules!

    Thanks Patrick,

I used your solution and it looks great.

Couple of questions I have though:

    1. Any idea how to implement pagination into this concept? there could be many results in the table, and would like to better organize it on the page.
    2. I've used the delete command followed by a submittosharepointlist command on a delete button on each row, but it does not remove the sharepoint item. Am i missing something?

    Thanks for the help!

Edit: I figured out the delete issue in #2, I was missing the Refresh command in between

I could really use step by step instructions on how to do this. My co-workers would like it to auto-refresh the library after each InfoPath form is submitted. Thank you.
