Form view forwarded in email, force line manager to open it in a browser to fill in

I am using office 365 with sharepoint and infopath 2010 Staff fill in a form in their browser, it emails a copy to their line manager. The line manager clicks the attachment and it opens in infopath. I need it to force the file to be opened in the web browser so they can complete the form on any computer or device. Is this possible? How can i do it? Thanks

    Hi Tom,

I don't think that this is possible. However, you may generate an e-mail instead with a hyperlink to open the form on your browser. I believe that using a library is the easiest way for you to accomplish this. To have this link generated, you can use a hidden field on your form which will hold the form name, and then concatenate it with strings to match the proper URL for the form. This approach will also allow non-InfoPath users to view the form. I hope I'm able to point you toward the right direction.

Hi Thanks for the reply. Do you know how i would go about generating the link and getting that into an email? My data is currently in sharepoint lists with an infopath form to populate the list. Is this still achievable with that setup? Thanks

    Hi Tom,

If you are using an InfoPath Designer form published as a Form Library, then the hyperlink for your form is the File Name you are using at the submit to library data connection. If not,  then I am assuming that you are using a Custom Form from a SharePoint list. If so then you can try creating a web part page which will display your form.

We have here a recent webinar which discusses web parts, how SharePoint list items are displayed as browser forms (although the webinar uses SharePoint 2010, web parts can also be used for O365). Also, the hyperlink here uses the ID of the XML id I am not mistaken, so you'll need to concatenate your web part's URL with the XML ID such as:

    /.aspx?param=http://<MySharePointSite>/<ListName>.aspx?param=<ID>

So my two options are either you use a A) Form Library to easily create a Form Link or B) SharePoint List and display it as a web part.

Note that you will need to use code such as CAML for submitting to a SharePoint List if you decide to use a Form Library, but you can also try qRule's SubmitToSharePointList command if you wish to avoid code.

    Hope this helps.
