I want the user to be able to press the button and it change to fail and press again and it changes to pass. Hide one when the other is pressed.

I'm attaching a sample form with rules which sets a field's value and has a formatting rule which hides its self if a certain condition has been met. Please check the button rules on the form and let me know if this approach works for you.
