[not(. = preceding::*)] doesn't seem to work for browser forms

Hi - I have the expression [not(. = preceding::*)] to eliminate duplicates in a list of values in an infopath form, based on the recommendation from this thread:

    http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/17807/62070.aspx

It works perfectly in the Infopath Filler client, however it seems to be incompatible with browser forms, since I get an error indicating as such when I publish to Sharepoint.  Is there an alternative or solution to this issue that anyone is aware of?   Basically, I'm concatenating a bunch of display names from a people picker field into one semi-colon delimited field, but I want to eliminate duplicate values in the expression.

    Thanks for your assistance!

    Aliya
